WHAT WE DO

CSM is committed to influencing politicians and churches with our commonly held values. CSM also helps to resource members to reflect on and respond to contemporary social issues as they affect our lives and our communities. We do this in a variety of ways.

The Common Good

CSM’s glossy 24-page magazine is produced three times a year. With a different theme each issue, The Common Good helps to promote our values and challenge thinking Christians to see how their faith interacts with contemporary issues and public policy debates. It is issued free to all members but also available to buy. Read about the latest issue

Pamphlets

CSM publishes two pamphlets a year, distributed free to members and also available to buy. CSM pamphlets offer more in-depth theological reflection on contemporary social and political issues designed to stimulate our thinking and practice. More

Events

CSM organises conferences and meetings to highlight issues of current interest and debate. Most are open to all though some are especially designed for younger people. CSM’s annual Tawney Lecture – usually combined with the AGM in March – and Wheatley Lecture – always held in Scotland – are our flagship events and always attract speakers of the highest calibre. CSM branches

CSM has a number of branches across the UK which enable members to meet locally for fellowship, discussion and to act together. Many members find a real opportunity to engage with CSM through their local branch. Some branches are affiliated to their local constituency Labour Party and play a full part in its activities, including policy formation and the selection of candidates. More

Policy

As an affiliated society CSM contributes to the policy-making process within the Labour Party. Drawing on members’ expertise and using its own democratic processes CSM submits detailed responses to policy discussion documents produced by the Party. CSM also produces material to help resource candidates during general election campaigns. More

Partners

CSM works closely with the Christian organisations in the other two main political parties represented at Westminster to highlight the influence Christians have in the political process and encourage others to become more involved themselves. We also combine with other like-minded organisations to campaign on other issues, such as Make Poverty History and Make Vote Count.
